I haven't blogged in a LONG time! Here's an exciting update:
I’m going to South Africa over Spring Break, March 9-18, 2012! I cannot express how excited I am about this mission trip! After a lot of prayer, I have decided to go with a team from Hulen Street Church of Fort Worth. I feel that God is telling me that this is an important next step for me to take as I look forward to a possible career in missions. (I’m praying about moving somewhere overseas in the 2013-2014 school year!!) I would be honored to visit these ministries in South Africa to educate myself about the AIDS problem and see what I could possibly do to help. Our mission team will be working with the Norwegian Settlers Church in Port Shepstone. I wanted to ask you partner with me in prayer for this trip. Pray that God will prepare our hearts and the hearts of the people in South Africa for the things He has planned. While there, we will be working with their ministry called Genesis. The mission of Genesis is: “As followers of Christ, we will serve our communities holistically, meeting physical, social, and spiritual needs associated with HIV/AIDS, poverty and other social issues.” Our team will be working in their AIDS hospice center. Please pray for us as we have the opportunity to share Christ. I anticipate these bedside moments will be heart-breaking, but I eagerly look forward to sharing the joy and peace that only Christ can bring. We will also be hosting a VBS-type after school camp for the children whose lives have been affected by AIDS and poverty. When not working in the hospice center or at the afterschool camp, we will be partnering with the other ministries at Norwegian Settlers Church. We will be working with children who are without parents, food, clothing and homes largely as a result of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. We will participate in the feeding program for children, a day care for babies and toddlers, community gym, music school, and reading room. As most of you know, my heart has always been turned towards children, especially the orphaned and impoverished.
If you would like more information about these ministries, you can visit their website at http://www.genesishope.co.za/ or email me at amychestnut84@gmail.com to catch up with what God is doing in my heart and life right now. Follow this blog to see updates/prayer needs and pictures for the trip.
Please consider partnering with me in this venture! If you would like to partner financially, the trip will cost approximately $2,600 and any gift would be greatly appreciated. You can send a tax-deductible donation by making your check payable to Hulen Street Church and write “Amy Chestnut, S. Africa” in the memo line. My team and I would also appreciate your prayers as we prepare our hearts for what we will see. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love, prayers, and support!
I thank God for every remembrance of you (Philippians 1:3),
Amy Chestnut
